Jaipur: Six people were arrested and a teenager detained for allegedly raping a minor and extorting money from her in Rajasthan's Ajmer. Police gave this information on Monday.

A case was registered in this matter on 31 May. SP Devendra Vishnoi said that on Sunday, two people including the main accused Irfan were arrested and a teenager was detained.

Circle officer (North) and investigating officer Rudra Prakash Sharma said four others were arrested today.

The accused befriended a minor girl through social media in December. He said he asked for the password of her Instagram ID and sent messages and morphed pictures to the girl's friends.

Irfan raped and blackmailed her. This crime continued for three-four months. Later, he started extorting money from the girl, Sharma said, adding that the other accused were his accomplices and their role is being investigated.

SP Vishnoi said that the victim's father saw that the girl was stealing money, after which he interrogated her and the matter came to light.

Ajmer IG Lata Manoj Kumar has formed an SIT to investigate the case in detail and find out if there are other victims.Meanwhile, BJP demonstrated at the SP office and demanded strict action against the accused.

BJP district president Ramesh Soni said that the case should be thoroughly investigated to ensure that there is no recurrence of an incident like the sex and blackmail scam of 1992, in which several girls were raped and blackmailed.

Ajmer Municipal Corporation Deputy Mayor Neeraj Jain said that the police should expand the scope of investigation and find out how many more accused are involved in this case apart from the accused named in the FIR.

“Even in 1992, many girls were trapped. They were raped and blackmailed."
