Six people died in rain-related incidents in Colombo, Sri Lanka, as heavy monsoon rains lashed the island nation on Friday.

Officials said about 1,346 houses were damaged by the torrential rains and train services were also disrupted in the country.

Six people died in four districts after trees fell due to strong winds and heavy rains, while over 34,000 people were stranded, the Disaster Management Center (DMC) said.

It said eighteen out of 25 administrative districts were affected by inclement weather with heavy rains and strong winds.

DMC has issued severe weather warning due to northeast monsoon rain activity.
