Jammu and Kashmir CEO P.K. Poll said at a press conference that the voting percentage in Baramulla constituency is expected to be 59 percent.

"As per reports available with us, voting is still going on in some villages. The voting percentage in the constituency is likely to be 59 per cent and may increase marginally as reports are still coming in as to what is the actual number of votes polled. The CEO said, the biggest thing about today's voting in Baramulla has been the highest turnout and completely peaceful and violence free election process.

He said that area wise the highest turnout was in Handwar at 67.5 percent and the lowest was in Gurez at 40.82 percent.Langate had the second highest voter turnout with 66 percent.

"In the democratic history of Baramulla, today's turnout of 59 per cent is matched only by 1984 when the same turnout was recorded even when there was no insurgency in the valley. But since insurgency started in Jammu and Kashmir, today's turnout in Baramulla The turnout is not only the highest ever but it also reflects the people's faith in democracy and their strong belief that development and progress can be achieved only through this democratic process," the CEO said.

He said, “A good news has come from Sopore area, where only 100 per cent voting was recorded in 2019. In Sopore today the voting was 44 per cent, which is 40 per cent more than in 2019.,

Pol said, "We had deployed more than 8,000 poll staff and more than 10,000 CAPF personnel who provided security to today's polling process in Baramulla constituency. He said 26 special polling stations were set up for 22,000 migrant voters and out of these, 32 percent voting was recorded at Jammu and Udhampur polling stations and 50 percent at Delhi polling stations.

Asked about reports of an untoward incident in the Pattan section, the CEO said some members of a particular community were holding a peaceful protest there.

"Since you have brought it to my notice, I will find out the details and take appropriate action," he said.

Prominent candidates in the Baramulla elections were National Conference vice-president Omar Abdullah, PDP's Faiyaz Ahmed Mir, Jammu and Kashmir People's Conference chief Sajjad Gani Lone and AIM chief Engineer Rashid, who is currently behind bars.
