New Delhi: A five-year-old boy died after being crushed by a tempo in North West Delhi's Wazirpur industrial area. Officials gave this information on Wednesday.

He said that the deceased has been identified as Karthik, who lived with his parents near Udham Singh Park.

"We received information about an accident at Ashok Vihar police station. A team was immediately sent to the spot," a senior police officer said.

The child's father Surjeet, who works in a factory, said in his police complaint that his son was playing and trying to cross the road when a tempo crushed him.

He further told the police that he was taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.

"We have arrested the driver Neeraj and seized the tempo. Further investigation into the case is underway," the police officer said.

A purported video of the incident also surfaced online, which showed the child running on the road when he was crushed by a tempo coming from the opposite direction.
