Ghaziabad (UP): The condition of a woman who sustained severe burn injuries in a fire incident here which killed five people is critical. Police gave this information on Friday.

He said his nephew, six-year-old Arsh Rehman, was admitted to a Delhi hospital with 25 per cent burns and was discharged on Friday.

According to the police, a building caught fire in Behta Hajipur of Loni Border police station area on Wednesday night.

Police said that the deceased have been identified as Saiful Rehman (35), his wife Nazira (32), daughter Isra (7), Faiz (7 months) and Farheen alias Parveen (25).

When the fire broke out, 22-year-old Uzma and Arsh ran towards the balcony and were saved by neighbors with the help of a ladder.

The fire broke out due to a short circuit on the ground floor of the two-storey house, where foam was stored for construction work. The foam caught fire and spread to the rest of the house.

Chief fire officer Rahul Pal said, "Shariq, the owner of the house, did not inform the fire brigade right after the incident because he was running the factory without any permission and the foam, including some chemicals, was stored illegally."

He said that fire tenders reached the spot at around 9.15 pm, but due to narrow streets and encroachment the firefighters could not reach the building. Later, 300 meters of hose pipe was used to extinguish the fire.

“We will start an awareness program with the help of civic bodies to keep the roads and streets encroachment free so that fire engines can reach the spot on time,” the CFO said.
