In the five Lok Sabha constituencies of Patna, Bihar where voting was going on in the second phase on Friday, 44.24 percent voting was recorded till 3 pm. The officers provided this information.

Voting in Kishanganj, Katihar, Purnia, Bhagalpur and Bank constituencies began at 7 am and will continue till 6 pm, he said.

He said that 50 candidates are in the fray on these five seats and more than 93 lakh people are eligible to decide their fate.

Officials said that till 3 pm, 46.78 percent voting took place in Purnia, Katihar (46.76 percent), Kishanganj (45.58 percent), Banka (42.89 percent) and Bhagalpur (39.49 percent).

Speaking to reporters in Lakhisarai, Deputy CM Vijay Kumar Sinha said, "I urge people to exercise their franchise in large numbers. People should vote for the overall development of the country as well as Bihar."

Meanwhile, Congress's Kishanganj MP Mohammad Javed, who is contesting re-election, lodged a police complaint alleging that his opponents issued a fake statement in his name asking voters to vote in favor of another candidate.

"It was an attempt by my opponents to mislead the voters of Kishanganj. I lodged a complaint against the suspects last night," he told reporters.

Officials said more than 150 companies of paramilitary forces are assisting the state police to ensure free and fair elections in this phase.

Voting is going on amid scorching heat with the mercury crossing 40 degrees Celsius in most parts of the state.

Officials said that arrangements for tents and drinking water have been made at the polling stations.
