About 43.53 per cent of the 13.25 lakh voters have exercised their franchise till 1 pm on Friday for Kohima, Nagaland's lone Lok Sabha seat. The officers provided this information.

He said that voting started at 7 in the morning and would continue till 4 in the evening.

Voting was going on amid a call by the Eastern Nagaland People's Organization (ENPO) for people in six districts of the region to abstain from voting over their demand for a separate state.

Officials said people in six districts, which have more than 4 lakh voters across 738 polling stations, remained indoors to show solidarity with the ENPO.

Nagaland Additional Chief Electoral Officer Aava Loring said election officials are deployed at 738 polling stations in six districts of Nagaland.

Sources said no voting took place in six districts till 1 pm.

Nagaland Governor La Ganesan exercised his franchise at the model polling booth TT Stadium in Officers Hill here, while Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio cast his vote at his native village Tauphema in North Angami-II assembly constituency in Kohima district.

Three candidates are in the fray for the lone Lok Sabha seat - Congress's S Suphongmeren Jamir, ruling NDPP candidate Chumbe Marri and independent Heithung Tungo Lotha.
