Ambala, Haryana: Rail traffic on the Ambala-Amritsar route was affected for the third day on Friday as farmers staged a protest on the railway tracks at Shambhu near the Punjab-Haryana border demanding the release of three farmers arrested by Haryana police officials.

He said that around 40 trains have been cancelled, while the routes of 54 trains have been changed.

Farmers are protesting in Shambhu in Patiala district under the banner of Samyukt Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM).

They sat on the tracks on the Ambala-Ludhiana-Amritsar road on Wednesday demanding the release of three fellow farmers arrested by the Haryana Police during the ongoing agitation.

As their protests continued for the third day, railway officials on Friday said it has affected the Ambala-Amritsar route, on which some good trains also run, according to officials.

He said that passengers are facing inconvenience due to disruption in rail traffic.

Farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher said that the protest will continue until the three farmers are released.

SKM (non-political) and KMM are leading the 'Delhi Chalo' march among farmers to put pressure on the government to accept their demands, including legal guarantee of Minimum Support Price (MSP) for crops.

The farmers have been stuck at the Shambhu and Khanauri border points between Punjab and Haryana since February 13, when security forces stopped their march.
