New Delhi: Paralympic Committee of India (PCI) president Devendra Jhajharia on Thursday expressed confidence that the country will improve its position in the next Games and is hopeful of bringing 40 to 50 medals from the 2028 Los Angeles edition.

"I would like to thank everyone for the support shown for our para-athletes. This felicitation ceremony will motivate them to perform better in the next edition of the Games," Jhajharia said during a felicitation ceremony organized by the Indian Oil Corporation. " Here with PCI.

"I am confident that we will better this performance from here on out in LA 2028. I promise everyone on behalf of the athletes that we will win at least 40 to 50 medals in the next edition of the Games," he said.

The Indian contingent created history by winning a total of 29 medals including seven gold, nine silver and 13 bronze, which is the country's best performance so far at the Paralympics in Paris.

Union Minister of State for Sports Raksha Khadse and Marketing Director of Indian Oil, Satish Kumar were also present at the event.

"I want to say today that you have a special gift from God that has helped you all come such a long way. With the support of your coaches, family and friends, you have made the country proud. You are the real Heroes of the country and I hope that your achievements will inspire many youth too,” Khadse said.

The Indian Para contingent participating in the Paris Games met Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence earlier in the day.
