New Delhi: A four-year-old girl who was abducted near her home in southwest Delhi was found abandoned near Geeta Colony market in Shahdara, police said on Monday.

The girl was found medically healthy and was returned to her family. The kidnapper remains at large and is being sought, police said.

On June 21, the Kishangarh police station received a complaint that a four-year-old girl had been kidnapped while playing outside her house around 3 pm, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southwest) Rohit said. Meena.

Based on the complaint, special teams from all 12 police stations in the district, as well as special staff, Anti-Snatching Cell, AHTU and AATS, were constituted to resolve the case.

As part of the investigation, police reviewed security camera footage from where the boy was playing and found a man wandering around the area around 2:32 p.m.

"It was further discovered that the same suspected person along with the missing child was walking barefoot from the streets. From the unkempt appearance of the suspect, it is clear (sic) that he was either a beggar or a labourer," the officer said.

In other images, the man is seen taking a collective bus from the Ber Sarai bus stop, after having walked about two or three kilometers.

Police tracked the bus and checked CCTV footage from inside.

"The accused, along with the child, had got off the bus at Dhaula Kuan. As it was certain that the accused had no money, he would not have traveled further and could have hidden around Dhaula Kuan," the DCP said.

During an investigation in south Delhi's Munirka area, one of the dhaba owners identified the man as Virender Kumar from Uttar Pradesh.

He told the police that Kumar had been living for the last two or three days as a homeless man in front of his dhaba on the footpath.

When the police approached his family in UP, they were informed that Kumar was mentally ill and probably living in Delhi-NCR with his wife and children.

"His wife living in Baldev Nagar in Gurgaon was also located and she claimed that due to Virender's mental problems, she was living separately from him and had no idea about Virender's whereabouts," the DCP said.

According to the officer, to locate the girl, more than 1,000 color copies of photographs of her and the accused were placed at Ber Sarai flyover, various hospitals, ISBT Kashmiri Gate, bus stops and Old Delhi Railway Station. . , the Dhaula Kuan Gurudwara and the nearby metro stations.

"On June 23, around 5 pm, the missing girl was located near Geeta Colony market, abandoned..." the DCP said.
