Jammu: Thirty-eight minors engaged in beggary and child labor were rescued by the district administration, officials said on Tuesday.

An official spokesperson said that the Jammu district administration has recently launched a campaign for the rehabilitation of street children, including those forced into child labor and begging.

In an effort led by District Child Protection Officer Mamta Rajput, 38 children who were found begging or working in commercial establishments, including hotels and dhabas, were rescued with the coordination of their parents, the spokesperson said.

These children have been enrolled in the Aadhaar database and will be given entry into the formal education system, he said.

Jammu District Magistrate Sachin Kumar Vaish has constituted a task force and announced to take a strict stance against all forms of child abuse.

He has ordered strict action, including canceling the registration of business establishments forcing children to work in dhabas or initiating appropriate criminal action against those involved in trafficking or forcing children to beg.

The district administration has also appealed to the public to report child abuse, trafficking or any other type of child exploitation to the District Child Protection Unit or Childline by calling 1098.
