New Delhi: Three workers were killed and six others injured in a fire and explosion at a food processing unit in the Narela industrial area here early Saturday, Delhi Police said.

He said that he received information about the fire at Shyam Kripa Foods Private Limited, which was processing dry moong dal, at 3.35 am.

The official said that the fire engulfed the factory and some workers were trapped in it.

A Delhi Fire Service (DFS) official said around 8.30 am that fourteen fire tenders have been pressed into service and the work to extinguish the fire is still going on.

He said nine people were rescued from inside the building and shifted to SHRC hospital in Narela.

Three of them – Shyam (24), Ram Singh (30) and Birpal (42) – were declared dead, while the others are undergoing treatment, the police officer said.
