Around 27 percent voting was recorded till 11 am on Monday in four Lok Sabha seats of Ranchi, Jharkhand. Election officials gave this information here.

Voting began at 7 am amid tight security in Singhbhum, Lohardaga, Khunti and Palamu seats in the first phase of elections in the eastern state and will continue till 5 pm.

Maoist-hit Singhbhum seat recorded around 26.16 per cent voting till 11 am, while Khunti, Lohardaga and Palamu seats saw 29.14 per cent, around 27.77 per cent and 26.95 per cent voting respectively.

Union Minister and BJP candidate from Khunti Lok Sabha seat Arjun Munda said that he is confident that the people of the country will elect BJP and make Narendra Modi the Prime Minister once again.Munda along with his wife Meera Munda voted at booth number 172, Khelarisai I Kharsawan under Khunti seat. His rival Kalicharan Munda of Congress exercised his franchise and claimed that this time he is going to win by a margin of more than 50,000 votes.

JMM candidate Joba Manjhi from Singhbhum Lok Sabha seat and BJP candidate Sameer Oraon from Lohardaga also exercised their franchise.

The official said that till now voting on all four Lok Sabha seats has been peaceful.

Over 64.37 lakh voters, including 32.07 lakh women and 42 persons of third gender, are eligible to exercise their franchise.

A total of 45 candidates, including Union Minister Arjun Munda, are in the fray, with Lohardaga having the highest number of candidates at 15, followed by Singhbhu (14), Palamu (9), and Khunti (7).Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) K Rao Kumar said that to ensure transparency and security, 15,000 4D cameras have been installed in all constituencies for webcasting.

He said that a total of 30,380 polling officers have been deployed at 7,595 booths.

"Polling parties and materials were airdropped in remote areas of Naxal-hit Singhbhum," said Kuldeep Chaudhary, Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Office, West Singhbhum.

Singhbhum, which includes Saranda, Asia's densest Sal forest, is one of the worst Maoist-affected areas in the country. BJP's Geeta Kora, who won the seat on Congress ticket in 2019, had to face competition from India Bloc's Joba Manjhi.In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, BJP got 11 seats and its ally AJSU got 11 seats, while Congress and JMM got one seat each.

The intense campaigning ahead of the first phase of voting saw heated exchanges between rival political parties on issues like corruption, reservation, Constitution and election promises.
