An estimated 27.43 per cent of the 77,26,668 voters exercised their franchise till 11 am in the five parliamentary constituencies of Guwahati, Assam, where the second phase of voting is underway on Friday, election officials said.

He said that the highest turnout of 30.82 percent was recorded in Diphu (ST), followed by Karimganj at 29.99 percent, Darrang-Udalguri at 28.81 percent, Nagaon at 25.29 percent and the least at Silchar at 23.20 percent.

Voting started at 7 in the morning and will continue till 5 in the evening. Sixty-one candidates are in the fray in this phase.

Prominent candidates who exercised their franchise included Assam Excise, Transport and Fisheries Minister Parimal Suklabaidya and his Congress rival Suryakant Sarkar in Silchar (SC), sitting BJP MP Kripanath Mall in Karimganj, BJ candidate Amarsing Tiso in Diphu and his Congress Rivals include Joyram Angleng. (ST) In Nagaon, sitting Congress MP Pradyut Bordoloi and his BJP rival Suresh Bora, a total of 77,26,668 voters, including 38,61,559 women and 179 third gender, will exercise their franchise across 9,133 polling stations.
