Dantewada: At least 23 Naxalites, including seven women, surrendered before security forces in Chhattisgarh's Dantewada on Monday, a senior police officer said.

Dantewada Superintendent of Police Gaurav Rai said that the Naxalites, who were part of the Bhairamgarh Area Committee of Maoists in South Bastar, laid down their arms in front of the police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) officials.

He said he was impressed by the police's rehabilitation campaign 'Lone Varatu' and was disappointed with the hollow Maoist ideology.

Of the cadres who surrendered, Sonu Madvi (40) was the vice-president of Dandakaranya Adivasi Kisan Mazdoor Sangathan (DAKMS) under Hurrepa Panchayat, Paro Madvi (38) was the vice-president of Krantikari Mahila Adivasi Sangathan (KAMS) and Parvati Adhikari said that Barsa (33) led its finance team.

"During the strike called by the Naxalites, the cadres were tasked with digging roads, cutting trees to block roads and putting up posters and banners. They will be provided facilities as per the surrender and rehabilitation policy of the government," he said.

With this, 761 Naxalites in the district have joined the mainstream under the police's 'Lone Varatu (Return to their home/village)' campaign launched in June 2020, including 177 Naxalites carrying cash rewards on their heads, officials said. Also included.
