New Delhi: A total of 22 deaths due to suspected heat-related illnesses have been recorded in Delhi's RML, Safdarjung and LNJP hospitals in the last 24 hours, officials said on Thursday.

Delhi is suffering from scorching heat for the last few days. There was some relief from light rain on Thursday morning.

Delhi hospitals have seen a rise in the number of casualties and patients due to heatstroke.

According to Safdarjung Hospital officials, 33 patients suffering from heat-related illnesses were admitted. He said 13 of them died in the last 24 hours.

A hospital source said that 22 patients with suspected heatstroke came to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in the last 24 hours, out of which four died.

An official source said that 17 patients are admitted in the casualty ward of Delhi government-run LNJP Hospital, while five patients died in the ward in the last 24 hours.

Meanwhile, the city's main crematorium - Nigambodh Ghat - has seen an increase in the number of cremations. However, officials could not confirm whether the deaths were related to heatstroke.

On Wednesday, 142 bodies were brought for cremation at Nigambodh Ghat, about 136 percentage points more than the daily average of 50-60 bodies, said Suman Gupta, general secretary of Nigambodh Ghat Sanchalan Samiti, which manages operations at the crematorium. . told .

The number was higher on Tuesday too when 97 bodies were cremated at the city's oldest and largest cremation ground.

"Normally, around 50-60 bodies are brought here daily for cremation. This number has increased in the last few days. Today, 35 cremations have taken place since the morning and the number may increase by the end of the day. Is." Gupta said.
