New Delhi: Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena has approved the prosecution of six people under the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act for their alleged involvement in the Parliament security breach, Raj Niwas officials said on Thursday.

In a major security breach on the anniversary of the 2001 Parliament attack, on December 13 last year, two men had jumped into the Lok Sabha chamber from the public gallery and opened the canister, emitting yellow smoke, causing panic among MPs .

Six people – Manoranjan D, Sagar Sharma, Amol Dhanraj Shinde, Neelam Ranolia, Lalit Jha and Mahesh Kumawat – are accused in the case.

Officials said Delhi Police had requested the Lieutenant Governor to prosecute them under sections 16 and 18 of the UAPA, who approved the prosecution after finding sufficient material on record.

“While Delhi Police had requested for necessary prosecution sanction under UAPA, the review committee on May 30 this year also examined the entire evidence collected by the investigating agency and found involvement of the accused in the case.

"Accordingly, the review committee finds that a prima facie case is made out against the accused under UAPA," a Raj Niwas official said.
