New Delhi, The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Thursday filed a supplementary charge sheet against three people in the 2022 Bhupatinagar blast case in West Bengal, officials said.

On December 2, 2022, three people were killed when a bomb exploded in a house near the rally venue of TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee in East Medinipur district of West Bengal.

Apart from Panchanan Ghorai, Manobrata Jana and Balai Charan Maiti, the agency has also named the deceased - Raj Kumar Manna, Vishwajit Gayen and Buddhadeb Manna - in the charge sheet filed before a special court in Kolkata.

While Ghorai is on bail, Jana and Maiti are in judicial custody. The NIA said proceedings against Raj Kumar Manna, Buddhadeb Manna and Gayen have been dropped.

"All six chargesheeted accused were found to be actively involved in the criminal conspiracy related to the bomb blast that occurred in Naruabila village on December 2, 2022," an NIA spokesperson said.

The agency took over the investigation from the state police on June 4 last year and has filed its charge sheet under the Indian Penal Code and the Explosive Substances Act.

The NIA said that the case has exposed a criminal conspiracy related to the supply of explosives for making bombs to spread terror and violence in the area.

2022 After the blast, local police said in a statement, "An explosion was reported in a house at around 11.15 pm on Friday and three bodies were recovered on Saturday morning."

"Some others have been injured. The cause of the blast is not yet known and further investigation is underway," it said.
