According to Colorado Parks and Wildlife, the incident occurred just after midnight in the Sailboard Beach area of ​​Lake Pueblo State Park in Pueblo County, not far from a dam where a group was fishing from the shore, which is part of the state park system. Colorado Parks and Wildlife received a call for help at 12:45 a.m. local time on Friday and responded immediately, the agency said in a news statement. Responding officers found two victims, Xinhua news agency reported.

According to the news statement, witnesses indicated that the gunman fled the scene, and the Pueblo County Coroner took custody of the bodies and will perform autopsies to determine the cause of death.

"We believe there is no threat to park guests at this time," said Joe Stadterman, park manager for Lake Pueblo.

He said no suspects were in custody yet.

Officials said the park, its campground and marina will remain open, but Sailboard Beach and its surrounding waters will remain closed indefinitely due to the ongoing investigation.
