LAHORE: Around 2,400 Indian Sikh pilgrims arrived in Pakistan's Punja provincial capital through the Wagah border on Saturday to participate in the annual Baisakhi festival. An officer gave this information.

The first Sikh minister of Pakistan's Punjab province, Sardar Ramash Singh Orara, who is also the chairman of Gurdwara Management Committee of Pakistan, along with Additional Secretary Pilgrimage of the Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) Rana Shahid and other senior officials welcomed the Indian pilgrims at the Wagah border. welcomed.

"Around 2,400 Indian Sikh pilgrims arrived today to participate in the Baisakh celebrations at Gurdwara Punja Sahib, Hasan Abdal," ETPB spokesperson Amir Hashem said.

ETPB looks after the holy places of minority communities in Pakistan.He said that for the first time after the upgradation of Hasan Abdal railway station, Indian Sikhs were transported to Hasan Abdal by train.

The Indian pilgrims were provided security cover by police and rangers.

Hashmi said the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi had issued 2,97 visas to Sikh pilgrims to participate in the annual festival at Hasan Abdal on April 14. However, 2,400 of them reached here.

According to the spokesperson, ETPB has completed all arrangements for the Baisakhi fair and Rai transport will be used instead of buses for the pilgrims coming from India for the first time.Hashmi said the main event of the festival will take place on Sunday with more than 11,000 local and foreign Sikh pilgrims gathering at Panja Sahib.

Other foreign Sikh pilgrims have come from Canada, USA, UK, Australia and New Zealand.

"Indian Sikhs will be housed in hostels managed by the ETPB, while those from other countries will stay in various colleges and schools," Hashmi said.

Baisakhi is the first day of Vaisakh month in the local calendar. I celebrate not only the spring festival in this area but also the anniversary of the establishment of 'Khalsa'.Baisakhi is also the official foundation day of Sikhism, as it was established by Guru Gobind Singh, the 10th Guru of the Sikhs.

During their stay, the pilgrims will also visit Gurdwara Janmasthan Nankan Sahib, Gurdwara Sacha Sauda Sheikhupura, Gurdwara Darbar Sahib, Kartarpur.

Before leaving for his motherland on April 22, Gurdwara Rori Sahib, Gujranwala and Gurdwara Dera Sahib Lahore.
