Nearly 2,400 cyber fraud complaints worth Rs 36 crore have been registered at the dedicated cyber police station in Bhubaneswar in the last six months, a senior official said on Thursday.

Speaking to reporters, Cuttack-Bhubaneswar Police Commissioner Sanjib Panda said 2,394 cyber fraud cases were registered from January to June, and 150 FIRs were lodged at the cyber police station, involving a total fraud of Rs 36 crore. .

Panda said victims from Bhubaneswar and other parts of the state have lodged complaints at the police station. He said the police have so far seized around Rs 9.50 crore of fraud and returned Rs 46 lakh to the victims.

Panda also said that 21 cyber fraudsters have been arrested, and two interstate cyber fraud rackets have been busted with the arrest of their members from Bengaluru, Guwahati and Rajasthan.

He said most of the cases involved UPI fraud, social media scams, parcel delivery scams, credit card delivery fraud and fake KYC messages. He said that the investigation has revealed the involvement of foreign fraudsters.

On Wednesday, the Odisha Crime Branch arrested 15 cyber criminals, including two masterminds, for their alleged involvement in a series of cases related to cryptocurrency, stock and IPO investment frauds.
