Chennai, With the help of fighting half-centuries from openers Tajmin Britts and Marizanne Kapp, South Africa scored a strong score of 189 runs for four wickets against India in the first women's T20 match here on Friday.

Britts hit three sixes and 10 fours in her career-best innings of 81 (56 balls), and she got a good ally in Marizanne Kapp (57 from 33b; 8x4, 1x6) in a 96-run partnership off 56 balls.

Earlier, captain Laura Wolvaardt (33; 22b) and Britts put on 50 runs in 43 balls for the first wicket, before Radha Yadav (2/40) gave India the first breakthrough.

In Indian bowling, Pooja Vastrakar took 2 wickets for 23 runs.

The second and third T20 matches will be played here on Sunday and Tuesday.

India defeated South Africa in the one-off Test before completing a 3-0 clean sweep in the ODI series.
