New Delhi, The '1st Cambodia-India Tourism Year' was launched on Monday in New Delhi during a ceremony attended by several top officials from the tourism ministries of both the countries.

The event also celebrated the launch of the first flight service between Phnom Penh and New Delhi a day earlier.

Long Phiram, State Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism of Cambodia and Manisha Saxena, Director General (Tourism), Ministry of Tourism of India jointly launched the '1st Cambodia-India Tourism Year 2024' with the beating of traditional drums on the stage.

Both Saxena and Firmam addressed the gathering which included government officials from both countries, tour operators and several businessmen from India who interacted with Cambodian officials and others.

In her address, Firm, who spoke in Cambodian language, described the designation of 2024 as the 'Cambodia-India Year of Tourism' as an "important milestone".He also said that the "historic direct air link" between Phnom Penh and New Delhi was also celebrated in Phnom Penh yesterday.

Cambodia's national flag carrier Cambodia Angkor Air launched the first direct flight service between the two countries from June 16, four times a week – on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.

A senior Cambodian official said several Cambodian delegates arrived in India on the inaugural flight from Phnom Penh on June 16.

Cambodian Ambassador to New Delhi Koy Cuong and Under Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism of Cambodia Sela Hul also attended the event.

Some colorful performances by a troupe of Cambodian artists were also organized on the occasion during the 'Cambodia-India Tourism Year 2024' program organized at a luxurious hotel in Delhi."Trade and cultural relations between India and Cambodia are very, very historical and centuries old. There was very prosperous trade from the southern kingdom (in India) to Cambodia (in ancient times) and vice versa," Saxena said. On the sidelines of the incident.

“And, the launch of this flight (tomorrow) and the Cambodia-India Tourism Year will really help citizens on both sides to rediscover this commonality. Angkor, in Cambodia's northern province of Siem Reap, is one of the most important archaeological sites in Southeast Asia.

The archaeological complex, which also includes the temple of Angkor Wat, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
