An estimated 19 per cent of the total 8,92,694 voters exercised their franchise till 11 am on Friday in Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh, where voting is underway for two Lok Sabha seats and 50 assembly constituencies, officials said.

The ruling BJP has already won 10 seats unopposed in the 60-member assembly.

Although the voting percentage was normal in the morning due to inclement weather, it increased as weather conditions improved.

Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Pawan Kumar Sen said voting was delayed due to technical glitches in electronic voting machines (EVMs) at some polling stations in the state, which were later replaced.

The CEO said that as per reports received from various districts, voting has been peaceful so far without any incident of violence.

Union Earth Sciences Minister Kiren Rijiju, Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Min were among the early voters in the northeastern state.

Officials said Rijiju cast his vote at his village Nafra in the newly created Bichom district, while Khandu exercised his franchise at the Government Secondary School, Bam, in Mukto constituency of Tawang district, from where he did his schooling.

Meen also exercised his franchise in Chaukham.

Governor Lieutenant General (retd) KT Pernaik and his wife Anagha Pernaik cast their vote at Polling Station 1 at P Sector Government Secondary School here.

"I cast my vote as a constitutional privilege and I appeal to all voters in the state to exercise their franchise and make our democracy successful," the governor told reporters.

An estimated 8,92,694 voters, including 4,54,256 women, are eligible to exercise their franchise and decide the electoral fate of 133 candidates and 14 Lok Sabha election contestants in the assembly elections.
