Acting on a tip, anti-narcotics police searched a vehicle in Mongping township in eastern Shan state on September 16, seized 100 kilograms of ICE (methamphetamine) and arrested two suspects.

During further investigation into the case, an additional 50 kilograms of ICE and 30 kilograms of ketamine were seized from the home of another suspect in the same township, Xinhua news agency reported, citing state daily The Myanmar Allin.

The investigation revealed that the drugs were being transported from Kengtung Township to Mongpyak Township in Shan State.

According to local media reports, the suspects were charged under the country's laws and further investigation is ongoing.

Earlier on September 17, Myanmar authorities had seized a large quantity of drugs in the areas of Yangon and Mandalay.

The seized narcotics included 1 kg of ketamine, 105 grams of happy water, 1.9 million stimulant pills and 50 grams of heroin. Narcotic drugs were seized in Dagon Myothit (North) Township of Yangon Region on 8 September and Chanmyathazi Township of Mandalay Region on 13 September.

A total of four suspects were arrested in connection with the case, and the drugs seized are worth approximately US$1.1 million.

The suspects were charged under the laws of the country.
