Puri, Fifteen people sustained burn injuries when a stack of firecrackers exploded during the Chandan Yatra festival of Lord Jagannath in Puri, Odisha on Wednesday night. Police gave this information.

He said that when the accident occurred, hundreds of people had gathered on the banks of Narendra Pushkarini reservoir to watch the rituals.

A group of devotees were celebrating the festival with firecrackers. Suddenly, splashes of burning firecrackers fell on the pile, causing an explosion.

Police said that people present there got hit by the burning firecrackers and some of them jumped into the reservoir to save themselves.

A doctor said that the injured people have been admitted to the district hospital and the condition of four of them is critical.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik expressed grief over the incident and directed the concerned officials to ensure proper treatment of the injured.

He said that the treatment expenses would be borne from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund.
