Karimganj (Assam) [India], Assam Water Resources Minister Piyush Hazarika visited flood-affected Karimganj and took stock of the situation in the district.

As guardian minister of the district, Piyush Hazarika held a review meeting at the District Commissioner's office on Sunday.

Taking stock of the work and progress of every department, the Minister discussed the problem of floods and the steps to be taken for flood control.

Piyush Hazarika said, "Initially 15-20 km of embankments will be built in the district. I have directed the Water Resources Department to conduct a study in this regard and prepare a proper plan."

Shelter, food and medical facilities for the victims were also discussed.

The minister asked the departmental officers to provide all services to the flood victims on a regular basis.

According to the flood report of Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), 111184 people are still affected by the floods in the district.

Floods in Assam have severely affected around 6,000 people in Nagaon district, with 35 villages in the district under Kampur and Raha revenue divisions inundated, and 1,089 hectares of crop area also inundated.

Many people of Changchaki area under Kampur revenue division have been forced to leave their homes after flood water entered their homes.

The Changchaki-Kwaimari link road has been submerged and several parts of the embankment have been washed away.

According to the Central Water Commission, the water level of Kopili river is flowing above the danger mark.

Many villagers of Changchaki and Kampur area are facing similar problems.

According to the flood report by Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), around 3 lakh people in 19 districts have been affected by the floods.

More than 2.43 lakh people have been affected in Karimganj district alone.

979 villages under 48 revenue divisions of 19 districts of the state have been affected by the current wave of floods.

In the flood affected districts, 3326.31 hectares of crop area has been submerged in flood water.
