JAMMU: Highlighting various efforts aimed at eliminating the drug menace in the city, the Jammu Police on Sunday said fourteen locations have been identified as 'drug hot spots'.

Jammu Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Vinod Kumar said that so far this year, 71 cases related to the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act have been registered and 85 smugglers were arrested with large quantities of banned substances, mainly heroin. Has been arrested.

“We have identified 14 locations as drug hotspots in the city and conducted 85 raids at these locations besides increasing manpower presence. These places were also brought under the surveillance of District Special Branch officials,” the officer told reporters here.

He said stringent cases under the Prevention of Illicit Trafficking in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PI NDPS) Act were registered against 13 notorious drug smugglers in the last three months compared to a total of 24 last year.

The SSP said, “We have launched a two-pronged strategy to deal with the drug menace, with the primary focus being on creating awareness among the people and secondly on rehabilitating the drug-addicted youth who are considered victims.,

"The police have recently opened a state-of-the-art drug rehabilitation center which is equipped with all facilities and qualified staff," he said.

Seeking active support from the people to eliminate the drug menace, he said that if any police personnel is found involved in drug smuggling, strict action will be taken against such persons as per the prevailing laws.

“Out of the total cases, the police have busted the back and forth links of 2 cases and attached three properties of notorious drug smugglers, while similar action is underway against others,” he said. Cross border drug smugglers.

The SSP said the police are also monitoring former overground workers of terrorists to ensure that they are not recycled and involved in narco-terrorism.

He said, “There is no instance where drug smugglers have used luxury vehicles…in fact most of the arrests were made by public transport.,

He said that separate teams have been formed in view of the Lok Sabha elections, while additional manpower has been deployed at the posts to ensure free and fair elections.
