Nashik (Maharashtra), Police said on Friday that a 16-year-old boy was murdered in Panchavati area of the city.
The deceased was identified as Ashish Dashrath Ranmale, a class 12 student, resident of Karnanagar, Peth Road.
At around 11.30 pm, a group of youth known to him attacked him with sharp weapons. An officer said the attackers immediately fled the spot.
Ashish was the only son of his parents and his father works as a labourer.
Although the exact reason behind the attack is not yet known, prima facie a minor quarrel between the youth two days ago could have been the reason for the murder, the officer said.
A case was registered at Sarkarwada police station and further investigation is underway.
