Gondia (Maharashtra): A 12-year-old tribal girl has been allegedly raped and murdered in Maharashtra's Gondia district, police said on Wednesday.

He said that the incident took place on April 19 and efforts are on to nab the unknown culprit.

Some tribal organizations demonstrated outside the Deori Sub-Divisional Magistrate office on Tuesday and Wednesday and warned of intensifying the agitation if the culprit is not arrested soon.



The victim, a Class 6 student, had gone with her parents to a relative's marriage ceremony at Gotanpar village in Deori tehsil on April 19.

A police officer said that an unknown person had allegedly kidnapped her from there.

After being unable to locate the girl, her parents began a search. He said that the mutilated body of the victim was found on April 20 in Dhavalkhedi forest near Gotanpar village.



After receiving the information, a team from Chichgarh police station reached the spot and later a case was registered under relevant provisions.



With no arrests being made even five days after the incident, members of some local tribal organizations demonstrated on Wednesday and submitted a memorandum at the sub-divisional magistrate's office.

He demanded immediate arrest in the case and death sentence to the culprit.



After the incident, Superintendent of Police Nikhil Pingle and other police officers met the victim's family.

Pingale said that they are investigating the case from various angles and the culprit will be caught soon.
