Jammu: 12 houses have been damaged due to heavy rains in Jammu and Kashmir's Kishtwar district, forcing authorities to put the disaster response machinery on high alert.

"The administration has put the disaster response machinery on high alert amid heavy rains lashing the area for the last four days," an official spokesperson said.

He said reports from the concerned tehsildars indicated damage to about a dozen houses in Nagaseni, Mughalmaidan and Kishtwar areas.

The spokesperson said that due to rain, one kutcha house in tehsil Nagaseni was completely damaged, while seven houses and two kutcha houses in tehsil Mughalmaida were partially damaged.

Similarly, in Kishtwar tehsil, a house and a cowshed suffered major damage, while a mud house and a private school building were partially damaged, he said.

The spokesperson said the administration immediately shifted the affected family to nearby safe places, while the Red Cross team is actively involved in providing relief material and necessary assistance to the affected people.

In response to the situation, the public has been advised to avoid unnecessary travel to sensitive locations.
