According to officials, Gagan was undergoing treatment for dengue fever at a private hospital in Bengaluru for the past few days and died of the deadly virus late on Friday night. Gagan was a student of Chaitanya Techno School.

In a separate incident, a 74-year-old man died after getting infected with Zika virus in Gandhinagar in the state's Shivamogga district on Friday night. The deceased was diagnosed with Zika virus on June 21 and was suffering from severe fever symptoms since June 19. He was discharged from the hospital on Thursday and was being treated at home.

Karnataka Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao had asked the state's deputy commissioners to remain alert about the spread of dengue cases as well as Zika virus.

In view of the increasing cases of dengue, the state government has fixed the price of dengue test at Rs 600. Karnataka has seen a 42 percent increase in dengue cases compared to last year with 6,187 positive cases of dengue found in the state. Six people have died from January to July 2.
