Kolkata, India's residential real estate market witnessed a 55 per cent rise in new launches in the first half of 2024 to 159,455 units, while Kolkata displayed an opposite trend, according to a report released on Friday.

The eastern metro saw an 11 per cent decline in new launches during this period.

Realty consultant JLL said in the report that Kolkata saw 4,388 units launched in the January-June period of 2024, compared to 4,942 units in the same month of 2023.

Kolkata's share in new launch inventory among the top seven cities was only three per cent.

Cities like Bengaluru, Mumbai, Delhi NCR and Hyderabad led the growth nationally, and launched a total of 159,455 units.

Chennai and Pune also saw a decline of 10 per cent and 22 per cent in launches respectively.

Housing prices rose in the top seven cities across India. These cities saw year-on-year price increases of 5 percent to 20 percent in the second quarter (April-June) of 2024.
