Srinagar: Amid rising temperatures in the Kashmir Valley, authorities have declared 10-day summer vacation for all schools up to senior secondary level from July 8, officials said here on Monday.

Officials said that the order to this effect was issued by the Education Department late on Sunday night.

"All government and recognized private schools falling in Kashmir Division will observe summer vacations from 08.07.2024 to 17.07.2024. Online guidance will be available to the students, if necessary," the order said.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department website, Kashmir Valley has seen above normal temperatures this summer.

The IMD said the mercury rose to 32.7 degrees Celsius on Sunday, which was 3.1 degrees above the season's normal. It said the minimum temperature last night was 21.8 degrees Celsius, which is 4.5 degrees Celsius high for this time of the year.
