Officials said the bus carrying 40 pilgrims who were returning to Hoshiarpur in Punjab, reached Nachalana near Banihal when the driver failed to stop the vehicle due to brake failure.

Officials said at least 10 pilgrims, including three women and a child, were hurt when several people traveling in the bus jumped out of the moving bus.

Seeing the pilgrims jumping from the moving vehicle, army and police personnel took swift action and stopped the bus from falling into the river by placing stones under the tires of the vehicle, he said.

Officials said quick response teams of the Army reached the spot with ambulances and provided medical aid and first aid to all the injured persons.
