About 10.12 per cent of the 81.49 lakh voters exercised their franchise in the first two hours of polling in four Lok Sabha constituencies in Guwahati, Assam on Tuesday. An election officer gave this information.

Till 9 am, Dhubri recorded the highest turnout of 10.75 percent, followed by Guwahati (10.38), Kokrajhar (9.77) and Barpeta (9.26).

He said that due to heavy rain on Monday night, thin queues were seen in front of 9,516 polling stations in the initial hours of polling, but polling is expected to increase as the day progresses.

Voting started at 7 in the morning and will continue till 5 in the evening.

A total of 81,49,091 voters, including 41,00,544 men, 40,48,436 women and 111 third gender, are eligible to exercise their franchise in the third and final phase of voting in Assam to decide the electoral fate of 47 candidates.

Two women candidates from the Guwahati seat - BJP's Bijuli Kalita Medhi and Congress's Meera Borthakur Goswami, Guwahati's sitting BJP MP Queen Oz and Kokrajhar's Congress candidate Garzen Mushari were among those who exercised their franchise in the early hours of polling. .

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is scheduled to cast his vote at Amingaon in Barpeta Lok Sabha seat later in the day.

In this phase, Dhubri has the maximum number of voters at 26,63,987, while Kokrajhar has the least number of voters at 14,94,404.
