New York [US], South Africa captain Aiden Markram talked about a game-changing moment in their 4-run win over Bangladesh and said that two meters could have led to a completely different outcome.

Chasing a low-scoring target of 114 runs, Markram relied on experienced spinner Keshav Maharaj to save 11 runs in the last over.

With two balls left, Mahmudullah was on strike and Bangladesh needed six runs to win the match.

The ball left Maharaj's hand and became a full toss. Seeing the opportunity, Mahmudullah's eyes lit up and he gave his all but Markram took a sharp catch just a few meters away from the boundary line.

The captain's leaping effort put South Africa in firm control and they were able to secure an unexpected victory.Markram talked about playing the game on a knife edge which made the whole affair entertaining.

Markram said, "In a game like this you are always very nervous in the last over. It is always on a knife edge, it can exhaust you mentally. Sometimes you get in the right direction, sometimes -Never, but it's a lot of fun." Said in the post-match presentation."19.5 (full toss) could have gone anywhere, could have gone two meters further and we would have had a different conversation. As I mentioned, a few things went in our favor today, very fortunate in that we were able to go ahead On the right side,” he said.

Defending the low score, Markram revealed that his game plan was to take the game to the last over on a surface that would favor the fast bowlers.

"Depending on the situation, you want to drag the game out as long as you can, so you use fast pace to attack. Today was one of those days where the fast bowlers were bowling well, we were able to get it in the end." Wanted to stretch till where anything could happen in the last over,” he said. After another poor performance with the bat, David Miller and Heinrich Klaasen put on a 79-run partnership to take the Proteas to 113/6.

"We have been putting Klaasen and Miller under pressure but they have been exceptional. They have gone back-to-back with important partnerships, and taken us to scores that we are lucky enough to win but we still have to defend. Great for Classy to get back to form,” he concluded.

South Africa has now registered three consecutive wins in the current campaign. They are just one step away from progressing to the Super 8 stage of the tournament.
