New Delhi [India], New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) member Kuljeet Singh Chahal on Tuesday hit out at the Delhi Jal Board and said the council is facing serious water crisis due to lack of water supply. Board during the last few days.

Chahal said the minimum committed quantity of water to be provided by Delhi Jal Board to NDMC is 125 million liters per day (MLD). Water is being provided to NDMC by Delhi Jal Board mainly from three water treatment plants--Wazirabad, Chanderwal and Sonia Vihar.

He said the major issue right now is the Wazirabad water treatment plant, which is running at less than 50% capacity. He said, "Delhi Jal Board has to provide 60 MLD of water, but not even a drop of water could be provided, resulting in water shortage in areas of Gole Market, Bengali Market, Tilak Marg, Parliament House, Supreme Court, High Court." There has been a huge shortage."Courts, judges' bungalows, DIJ area, hospitals like RML, Kalavati and Lady Hardinge."

Talking about the Chandrawal water treatment plant, the press release quoted Chahal as saying, "Chanderwal water treatment plant is running at 30% less capacity, 35 MLD water as against 20 to 25 MLD water supplied by the Delhi Jal Board." Which mainly includes Rashtrapati Sampada, Chanakyapuri, PM House etc.

Sonia Vihar water treatment plant is running at 10% less capacity, and Delhi Jal Board has to provide 30 MLD water, against which 20 MLD water is being provided and water is being supplied to Jor Bagh, Bharti Nagar, Pandara Road, Khan Market, Kaka Areas like Nagar, Bapa Nagar etc. are facing crisis as stated in the press release.

Chahal informed that in view of regular short supply at Wazirabad plant and other areas, NDMC is taking care of its residents by supplying water through water tankers etc. and trying to attend to the complaints as much as possible, But it is not enough.

During the press conference, Chahal said that NDMC has kept 10 and seven water tankers of 10,000 liter capacity respectively for major JJ clusters like Sanjay Camp and Vivekananda Camp, the press release said.“This is an additional help for the residents here to collect water through these water tankers apart from water tankers and tap water,” Chahal said.

The NDMC member also targeted Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for not fulfilling promises. "Kejriwal makes many promises to the voters of New Delhi area to provide free water etc. but fails to provide essential commodities including potable water in his constituency. Kejriwal is trying to run the government on Tihar water, which Not possible at all." Chahal said.
