Kaveri Hospital's special initiative for Bladder Cancer Awareness Month

Chennai, 30 May 2024: Cauvery Hospital Alwarpet, Tamil Nadu's leading multi specialty healthcare chain, launched an art expo “Canvas of Hope” which aims to raise awareness about bladder cancer through art. The AR Expo is in collaboration with Merck Specialty Pvt. Ltd.

The hospital also emphasized on a latest technology that helps in detecting bladder cancer, called Urinary Fluorescent Flow Cytometry (UFFC) technology. Detecting malignant cells in urine through flow cytometry involves collecting a urine sample, staining the cells with special fluorescent dyes, and passing through them. A urine flow cytometer. As the cells flow through the laser beam, they emit light depending on their characteristics.The machine measures this light to identify abnormal cells such as cancer cells, which often have large amounts of abnormal DNA material and specific surface markers. This technology helps in quick, detailed and sensitive detection of cancer cells in urine. Very few centers in India have this technology and Kaveri Hospital is one of them.

Bladder cancer is the 11th most common cancer worldwide. Bladder cancer is a rare fatal disease in the Indian population.Bladder cancer is the 17th most common malignancy in India according to the GLOBOCAN 2020 database. The 5-year prevalence appears to be 3.57 per 100,000 population, leading to about 1100 deaths each year. Awareness and timely diagnosis are important to improve patient outcomes.
