New Delhi [India], Aam Aadmi Party on Monday announced the dissolution of the party in Assam with immediate effect in view of the upcoming assembly elections in the state.

"In view of the need to strengthen the party before the upcoming elections in Assam, the Aam Aadmi Party dissolves the present organization in the state of Assam with immediate effect," the party said on its official X handle.

It further said, “The State President, State Secretary and State Treasurer will continue to hold their posts until the new organizational structure is announced.”

The party also informed that it has formed a working committee comprising the following leaders to restructure the party organization – Dr. Bhaben Choudhary (Convenor), Manoj Dhanover (Co-Convenor), Rajeev Saikia, Mamun Imdadul Haq Choudhary. , Rishiraj Kaundinya, Anushura Dekaraja.

Assembly elections will be held in the state in 2026.

Earlier this month, Assam Chief Minister and BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed confidence over the victory of the BJP-led NDA in the 2026 assembly elections in the state.

The Chief Minister said, "BJP and its allies have set a target of winning 90-100 assembly seats in the 2026 assembly elections in the state."

The Bharatiya Janata Party contested 11 Lok Sabha seats and won nine, while its allies Assam Gana Parishad (AGP) contested two seats and won one seat and the United People's Party Liberal (UPPL) won one seat. Contested and won a seat. Of the total 14 Lok Sabha constituencies in Assam, the Congress-led India Bloc won three seats in the state.

The number of constituencies of Assam Legislative Assembly is 126.
