Indore, Madhya Pradesh: A court in Indore on Monday awarded death sentence to two men accused of kidnapping a seven-year-old boy and killing him after a ransom of Rs 4 crore was not received.

Special judge Devendra Prasad Mishra booked Vikrant Thakur (25) and Hrithik Thakur (23) under sections 364A (kidnapping for ransom), 302 (murder) and other relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code, victim's lawyer Ashish S Sharma said. Convicted under. Told reporters.

Citing that this case falls in the "rarest of the rare" category, the court awarded death sentence to both the accused, he said.

Rejecting the defence's plea for leniency in sentence, the court said, "If the manner of commission of the crime, its heinousness and the audacity of the accused are such that they shake the soul of the society and attack the spirit of humanity, Therefore, in such a case, the sentence of life imprisonment is found inadequate."

Sharma said that Vikrant and Hrithik had kidnapped the victim Harsh Chauhan from Pigdambar area on February 5, 2023 and demanded a ransom of Rs 4 crore from his father Jitendra Chauhan.

He told that when they could not take the ransom, both of them strangled the boy to death.

At least 30 witnesses were examined during the trial, the lawyer said.

He said, the victim's father is associated with Congress and the accused Hrithik is his relative, whom he often helps.
