New Delhi [India], The National Level Coordination Committee (NLCC) for the world's largest grain storage scheme held its first meeting at the Ministry of Cooperation in the national capital on Monday.

Ashish Kumar Bhutani, Secretary, Ministry of Cooperation, along with Secretary (Agriculture & Farmers Welfare), Secretary (Food & Public Distribution), Secretary (Food Processing Industries) and MD (NCDC) held the first meeting with the Food Corporation of India. Government of India (FCI), National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD, WDRA and other stakeholders), Ministry of Cooperation said in a press release.

The committee reviewed the status of implementation of its pilot project in 11 states, which was launched last year.

The scheme envisages creation of various agricultural infrastructure at PACS level including warehouses, custom hiring centres, processing units, fair price shops etc. through convergence of various existing schemes of Government of India (Government of India).Formalization of Infrastructure Fund (AIF), Agricultural Marketing Infrastructure Scheme (AMI), Sub Mission on Agricultural Mechanization (SMAM) and Pradhan Mantri Micro Food Processing Enterprises Scheme (PMFME) etc.

Speaking on the occasion, Secretary, Ministry of Cooperation, Bhutani said that this project is one of the most ambitious projects undertaken by the Government of India, which envisages creation of warehouses at a decentralized level for nationwide implementation of the scheme. The release said.

The pilot project has been implemented by National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC) in collaboration with NABARD, Food Corporation of India (FCI), Central Warehousing Corporation (CWC), NABARD Consultancy Services (NABCONS) in coordination with the concerned States/UTs. Additionally, the pilot is being expanded to 500 additional PACS with the collaboration of State Governments, NCCF, National Building Construction Corporation (NBCC) etc.States/UTs and national level cooperative federations like National Cooperative Consumer Federation (NCCF) and National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Limited (NAFED) have identified more PACS for creation of storage capacity and other agricultural infrastructure under the project. . The committee members also discussed how to take the scheme forward on a nationwide level, including possible options for connecting warehouses with various stakeholders.
