Kolkata: Two Union ministers and BJP candidates lost from West Bengal in the Lok Sabha elections, while one emerged victorious, according to Election Commission data on Tuesday.

While Shantanu Thakur won, Nisith Pramanik and Subhash Sarkar were defeated by Trinamool Congress candidates in the election.

All three ministers were contesting re-election from their respective constituencies.

The saffron party's Matua face, Shantanu Thakur, minister of state in the Union Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, won over his nearest rival Biswajit Das of the Trinamool Congress by a margin of 73,693 votes, according to Election Commission data.

BJP candidate and Union Minister of State for Education Subhash Sarkar lost to his nearest rival Arup Chakraborty of Trinamool Congress by 32,778 votes.

According to Election Commission data, the saffron party's Union Minister of State for Home Nisith Pramanik was defeated by TMC's Jagdish Chandra Barma Basunia in the Cooch Behar seat by a margin of 39,250 votes.
