Kavaratti (Lakshadweep), Congress leader Hamdullah Sayeed on Tuesday won the Lakshadweep Lok Sabha seat by a margin of 2,647 votes against NCP(S) candidate Mohammad Faizal P P.

Faisal is the current MP from Lakshadweep and Sayeed is the former MP from the Said Islands archipelago, the constituency saw a tough fight between the two to win.

When counting of votes started in the morning, Congress leaders were leading.

When the counting ended, Saeed got 25,726 votes and Faisal got 23,079 votes.

Of the total 57,784 registered voters in Lakshadweep, 48,468 cast their votes in the first phase of elections in the constituency on April 19.
