Hyderabad: Members of BJP's youth wing Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) protested here on Thursday against alleged "anti-Hindu" remarks made by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in the Lok Sabha.

During the protest, BJYM Telangana unit leaders and workers raised slogans against Gandhi, burnt his effigy and demanded an apology from him.

The protesters gathered at the Telangana BJP office here tried to march towards Gandhi Bhavan, the headquarters of the Congress party in Telangana, but were stopped by the police. They were detained and many of them were taken away in police vehicles.

In his first speech as leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha on Monday, Gandhi had launched a no-holds-barred attack on the BJP, accusing the ruling party leaders of dividing people on communal lines.

His remarks were widely criticized by the ruling party, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi criticizing the Congress leader for calling the entire Hindu community violent. However, Gandhi clarified that he was speaking about the BJP.
