New Delhi: Growth of eight core infrastructure sectors rose 6.3 per cent in May due to healthy expansion in coal, natural gas and power generation, according to official data released on Friday.

The production of eight sectors increased by 6.7 percent in April.

The growth of these core sectors – coal, crude oil, natural gas, refinery products, fertiliser, steel, cement and power – was 5.2 per cent in May 2023.

Official data showed that fertilizer, crude oil and cement production recorded negative growth in May.

The production of these sectors during April-May in the current financial year was 6.5 percent higher as compared to 4.9 percent in the same period of the last financial year.

The contribution of eight major sectors in the country's Index of Industrial Production (IIP) is 40.27 percent.
