Mysuru (Karnataka) Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday rejected the BJP's demand for a CBI probe into the alleged fraudulent allotment of land to land losers by the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA), which involves land given to his wife Parvathi.

He accused the BJP of politicizing an "unimportant issue".

The Chief Minister was reacting to BJP state president B Y Vijayendra's announcement earlier in the day that a "mega" protest would be held in Mysuru, Siddaramaiah's home district, on July 12 in connection with the alleged "scam".

It is alleged that Siddaramaiah's wife was allotted compensatory land in an exclusive area of Mysuru, the property of which had a higher value compared to the location of her land which had been "acquired" by the MUDA.

MUDA had allotted plots to Parvathi on a 50:50 ratio scheme in lieu of 3.16 acres of her land, where MUDA developed a residential layout.

The controversial plan calls for allocating 50 percent of developed land to the loser, instead of undeveloped land acquired to form layouts.

“There are two problems, one is: in October itself, MUDA was told not to provide sites under the 50:50 ratio scheme, but despite that, sites were provided regarding which two IAS officers were investigating .And based on that action will be taken. Secondly, they (BJP) want the sites they gave to my wife to be a problem, it is not a problem at all," Siddaramaiah told reporters here.

"Did we seek to be given sites in Vijayanagar? We have not done so. Our lands were taken illegally. What will they do if they take over their lands? Won't they complain? That is what has happened here. We are seeking compensation." For our land that was taken, they (MUDA) handed over Vijayanagar, and accepted in the meeting that the illegal taking of our land was wrong.”

Terming the BJP's proposed protest as "political", the Chief Minister said if they raise the issue in the Legislative Assembly, "we will respond to it".

On the BJP's demand for a CBI probe, he said, "Can't our police investigate? What is the use of our police? I have handed over several cases to the CBI during our government, have they (BJP) filed any case while was in power? CBI director Praveen Bueno was the DGP in Karnataka, our police have the capacity to investigate.”
