Mumbai, Maharashtra Cabinet on Thursday approved the proposal to provide free pilgrimage to senior citizens under 'Mukhyamantri Teerth Darshan Yojana'. An officer gave this information.

According to the proposal, citizens above 60 years of age and with annual income up to Rs 2.5 lakh can avail the benefits of this scheme.

Each senior citizen will be entitled to a maximum benefit of Rs 30,000 under the pilgrimage scheme, the official said.

The Cabinet also approved the setting up of 'Mukhyamantri Varkari Mahamandal' for the welfare of the pilgrims.

A skilled training institute will be set up for the Matang community, the official said.

The Cabinet approved additional expenditure of Rs 7,775 crore for the state's free electricity scheme for farmers. Overall, 44 lakh farmers will benefit from this, the official said.

The Cabinet also approved an incentive of Rs 1,000 for crops up to two hectares and Rs 5,000 per hectare for crops growing on more than two hectares of land to cotton and soybean farmers for the Kharif season.

In another decision, a loan of Rs 27,750 crore will be taken to acquire land for Virar-Alibag Multi Model Corridor and Pune Ring Road. The Cabinet canceled its previous approval for the government guarantee given for loans from HUDCO.
