New Delhi, Marico Ltd MD and CEO Saugata Gupta on Friday said tax relief for the middle class and salaried class in the upcoming Union Budget will increase purchasing power and act as a catalyst in increasing consumption patterns.

He said key expectations from the full Budget 2024-25 include continued emphasis on rural development through investment in infrastructure and employment, promotion of agricultural activities to increase rural incomes.

“We look forward to policies that promote inclusive and sustainable growth,” Gupta said in a statement.

Elaborating on expectations, he said, "Tax relief for the middle class and salaried class will not only increase purchasing power but will also act as a catalyst in enhancing consumption patterns."

Gupta said government support during the critical monsoon period is important to stabilize the rural economy and ensure farmers have access to essential resources.

He acknowledged the government's commitment to support measures such as providing employment opportunities and extension of the free food grain scheme till 2028, saying this underpins efforts to sustain rural consumption, enhance quality of life and control inflation .
