The pilgrims, bound for central Kashmir's Baltal base camp in Ganderbal district, reached Srinagar district on Friday afternoon.

The convoy of passengers was welcomed by DIG Central Kashmir Range, District Development Commissioner Srinagar and SSP Srinagar at Pantha Chowk on the outskirts of Srinagar.

District administration officials presented flower bunches to the passengers. They will reach Baltal base camp this evening.

Another convoy of pilgrims was welcomed with bouquets by Kulgam and Anantnag district administration officials while they were on their way to Nunwan (Pahalgam) base camp.

A total of 4603 passengers left Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas in two security convoys in the morning. The convoys of pilgrims were flagged off with traditional flagging off by Jammu and Kashmir LG amid chanting of mantras.

Of these, 1933 pilgrims are going to Baltal in 115 vehicles while 2670 pilgrims are going to Pahalgam in 116 vehicles.

The annual Amarnath Yatra will begin on June 29 and conclude after 52 days on August 19, coinciding with the Raksha Bandhan and Shravan Purnima festivals.

This year around 125 langars (community kitchens) have been set up for the pilgrims. Of these, 40 have been established on the Srinagar-Baltal-Gufa pilgrimage axis and the rest on the Qazigund-Pahalgam-Gufa pilgrimage axis.

More than 7,000 sevadars (volunteers) are serving the passengers in these community kitchens.

A three-tier security managed by the Army's outer ring, CAPF's middle and inner ring and the police is providing security to this year's Yatra.
